OVERARCHING artist statementOver the past 5 months I have done nothing less than further prove to myself that I use creative spaces (not only contemporary art settings), to distance myself from everything else in my environment and dedicate my time to one purpose. It's almost like my personal safety blanket, to have total control over what I'm doing and how it's being done. I make things (whether it's art, ideas, or plans) to constantly keep myself at works and with purpose. I feel as though I have a slight feeling of distance when I see someone else working at something and I'm not. To constantly have a creative project to work on or to have finished said project is the best feeling to me. final thoughtssQ: What was your most successful project this semester? Describe the project and your work, then explain why this particular project was successful for you. A: The art piece that came out looking the best to be was the abstract painting that we accomplished in a group. The plan was a very simplistic geometric design with varying shades of blue and grays. Although there were group members I found it difficult to work with, the art ended up flowing very well as one, as well as a combined piece with other groups. Q: Do over - what was a project this semester you would change if you could? Describe the project and your work, including what you didn’t like about the work, then explain what you could have done differently to improve the result A: I wish I could change or completely re-do the ink splat project. We were told to randomly and messily blow ink onto a sheet of paper and then use our imagination to create a scene/image out of the dispersing lines. I don't like how didn't take my time instead of really trying to make something. I could have (and would have liked to) taken more time and drawn out several plans on what direction I was going to take the piece. Q: What is a media that you enjoyed working with this semester? Write about what the media was, explain why you liked it and give examples of work you created with it.
A: My favorite media I used this semester was either the acrylic paint or the printing ink and the techniques used to work with it. The abstract paint, as I stated previously was my favorite piece and I truly wish I had more time to work with the paint and explored it to it's extent. The other media I like was the printing ink. The idea of making different stencils and designing clothes or other materials really tinkered to my tastes.

Q: What was your most successful print? Describe the process and why this printing technique was successful for you. A: In my opinion, screen printing worked best for me. I drew my geometric design in a way that would result in clean cut lines. After choosing colors I believed went well together and even contrasted in a way, I scraped them on and the image transferred onto paper Q: Do over - what was a print you would change if you could? Describe the process and your print, including what you didn’t like about the final print, then explain what you could have done differently to improve the final print. A: I wish I could do the monoprints over again. I would have rather had more time to plan a more intricate pattern or scene, then to come up with one quickly and messily the lines are not as defined as I would have liked them to be. I do however enjoy the ombre effect combined with my choice in color scheme. Q: What is a printing technique that you enjoyed working with this most? Describe the printing process and why you liked it.
A: My favorite printing technique was the collagraphs. All though I once again did not have much time do make a plan, I quickly came up with another geometric design. The various parallel lines mixed with the contrasting organic leaf shapes looked well together. After seeing others using a descending tone color scheme I really wanted to try it out and in the end it worked out quite nicely. artist statement:In the beginning my plan was to sketch a pattern on my driveway with chalk and cover it with various flowers and leaves. As the weather is changing, there are less plants in my environment, but I was able to collect what I could and found it wasn't enough to accomplish what I had wanted. I took the materials I collected and went to a grassy area within my yard. I tried to create a smaller version of my original pattern but due to the wind and how spread out the pieces are, they kept blowing away. I stared at what I had and immediately saw a heart in the large leaves. I set one down and created the design you can see above. The editing I used really brought out the contrasting colors and textures. I titled this after one of my favorite french songs "La Vie en Rose", which translates to "The Life in Pink". The warm colors and floral aesthetic reminded me of the mood of that specific song. The filter and colors combined, in my opinion, form a wonderful looking earthwork.
